Remembering Andrew “Drew” Smith Butler

A celebration of life service will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church

Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM, with a reception/celebratory ‘party’ as Drew requested, immediately following in the church fellowship hall. Friends are asked to wear their favorite sports shirt or jersey. Drew wants us to focus on joy and the things he loved, and keep the fun stories and memories alive in our hearts.

Surrounded by his loving parents, Andrew Smith Butler passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 30, 2026 after a valiant fight with cancer at age 36. He was born in Fairfax, VA, on April 29, 1990, to Larry T. and Melanie Smith Butler.

Drew lived in Herndon, VA and graduated from Chantilly High School. He attended West Virginia University, and worked as a surveyor at Wetlands Studies & Solutions and then in retail at Alpine Ski Shop.

His love for the outdoors and adventure, inspired by his dad and best friend, took him on many adventures doing the things he loved most—hiking, mountain biking, camping, off-roading, fishing, rooting for his favorite sports teams, and his greatest passion, snowboarding. Drew spent most of his time when he was not working at the ski shop, doing all the things he so loved, in the places he loved, with the people he loved. From country roads in West Virginia, to the Outer Banks and his Uncle Bruce’s fishing boat in North Carolina, his family cabin at his grandpa’s land in Pennsylvania, and the snow-covered mountains in Utah, Drew lived life large and to the fullest. Drew’s knowledge of all the things he enjoyed was immense, and he loved sharing with anyone he was blessed to share time with. He never met a stranger, and would do anything for his friends and family—anyone in need.

Drew is survived by his parents Larry & Melanie, his pup Colbie, his Nanny Marge Butler, many uncles, aunts, and cousins, and his most cherished friends. His cousins Kasey Butler Simon and Bruce Butler were his sister and brother. They shared every holiday, beach trip and innumerable fun, crazy, special times. Those memories are some of our most special and will live on in our hearts.
